Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a fortunate middle school teacher. My career is exposing 8th grade minds to Physical science. The student population at my public school is high-need and high-risk. Needless to say, my students are on the low end of the social-economical spectrum.
In order to properly engage 8th grade students when teaching science there must be labs. 8th grade students have a high interest in labs and they become "real" scientists. The school lacks the funds needed to purchase the appropriate materials to do this lab.
The slime lab creates an engaging way to teach our objectives. Students enjoy investigating the chemicals that create a popular toy. Students also enjoy this activity because they are given a product that they can take home, show their family, and explain the chemical makeup of a popular toy.
You make it possible for my students to be scientists and to show their new found information off to their families at home. This encourages their interest in science as they continue on with their education. You are showing my students that the society we live in values all students' educational experience. You will show my students that no matter what social-economical background they come from they deserve an exciting learning experience. I cannot express my personal gratitude. Thank you for your assistance in our project.
