Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Given the rapid spread of COVID-19, New York City Public Schools switched to remote instruction delivery during Spring of 2020. I was able to prepare materials for students to work from home and my students have been successful in completing instructions that involve cutting and pasting, highlighting, drawing, and tracing. Several weeks later, those materials are now depleted. I need your help in supplying my students with essential classroom materials needed to successfully complete daily academic tasks.
My Project
Following a remote read aloud, students are asked to demonstrate comprehension of text using preferred mode of communication. I give the students many ways to demonstrate understanding. When asking comprehension questions, I encourage them to use the markers and crayons to draw a picture of what they understood from the story. They use the scissors, glue, and construction paper to cut and paste an illustration from a magazine that matches their response. They are encouraged to create a collage or painting related to the text. With support, students begin to put words together to build sentences to respond to questions about the text in written form and then onto their communication device.
In order to complete those tasks, they need these essential supplies which they currently do not have access to.
