Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in Tucson, Arizona, nestled around beautiful mountain within the amazing Sonoran Desert. We are proud to be a community that is part of the United States Air Force Base-Davis Monthan and the University of Arizona.
The student make-up of my classroom consist of 75% minority students...the majority of Hispanic and African American descent.
80% of my students are part of one or more pull-out support program such as Exceptional Education, Reading Support, English Language Learner, Speech and Occupational Therapy.
At this time, I have two students who are living in a shelter and receiving support and assistance.
The children are so lovely and giving. It is an absolute joy to greet them each morning and see the smiles and excitement they have for learning and spending the day together as a family.
My Project
Providing a space that is comfortable and inviting to students is a goal for me to achieve for my third grade students. This space will be available not only for whole group class time, but also for small group settings, one on one time with teacher and a quiet space for independent student reading.
My student learning abilities vary in reading and math.
It is crucial for me to provide an area that allows me to meet with students and provide intervention lessons that reteach concepts to students who are having difficulty grasping understanding in these areas.
The rug area space will also provide for whole group community meetings and activities that will build and enrich on communication skills, trust, and for a safe and positive environment.
