Ms. Cabreza from Milwaukee WI is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need cleaning supplies and classroom supplies to use during classroom job time to improve our vocational skills (employability) and practice our daily living skills while building a positive classroom community.

My students love to learn.
All of my students qualify for free lunch along with a majority of the school. My school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school and my students are in sixth through eighth grade.
My students require special education services for a majority of the school day, so they are in a self-contained classroom for students with intellectual disabilities. My students have intellectual disabilities, and we practice life skills daily. We work on functional academic skills and vocational skills.
My students want to fit in and do everything their regular education peers do. My students are beginning their transition into high school, and then adulthood. Middle school is a pivotal time with so many skills to learn and a limited amount of time. Our life skills lessons blend academic, daily living, and personal/social skills together.
Everyday my students work on their vocational skills. They need these skills to improve their employability and also to improve daily living skills to increase their chances of living independently as adults. The students work on following directions, completing multistep tasks, and working together as a team. The students have to communicate with each other and learn how to work together effectively to get the job done.
The students take pride in having classroom jobs and it is a way for the students to build a sense of classroom community by working as a team.
As the students improve these skills, they will be better prepared to clean and maintain their own households. and have necessary vocational skills that will help them when looking for a job after they complete high school.
During vocational time, the students do their assigned classroom job for the week. There is a supervisor who is in charge of letting everyone know what their job is. Some of the jobs include: to sweep the floors with the broom, sanitizing the tables using Clorox Wipes, and making sure the room looks and smells good using the Air Wick. We use a bulletin board to communicate the jobs to the students.
The library pockets and colored card stock will be used to display the students' jobs. They will use name badges with lanyards as passes when they are doing school-wide jobs which require them to be in the hallway.
We will need a place to store all of these bulletin board materials and the storage box will do that. Students want the room to look nice before we leave everyday because they take pride in our classroom. These are valuable life skills for employability and also daily living skills the students will need when they become adults.
