Our school is an IB World School offering the Primary Years Programme and I teach 1st grade. We are Title I school that serves a diverse population in our community. We have over 1,000 students that come from many different backgrounds and experiences, but when they enter the doors to our school, they are family.
Our students participate in a challenging, inquiry-based education.
Every day they work hard to reach their academic goals as well as goals in extracurricular activities. They participate in weekly classroom meetings, work in groups on inquiry projects, and take action in their community.
My Project
My first graders love to read! They devour the books in our classroom library. On an average day Biscuit books are traded between students, Pete the Cat books are shared and copies of Harry the Dirty Dog are passed around.
I want to spread magic and excitement of our classroom library over to our guided reading groups.
When my students come to read with me I want them to be excited about the adventures they are going to embark on with their favorite characters.
This guided reading pack will provide my first graders with quality literature at their reading level. Titles in this bundle include: Frog and Toad are Friends, Mouse Soup and Amelia Bedelia. By using these books in my guided reading groups, I can support my readers at their level and help them meet their end of the year goals. One of our first grade standards is for students to be able to compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories. This bundle of books is the perfect meet to support that work. More importantly, my students will enjoy the books they are reading!
