Building a Love of School One Kindergartener at a Time.
Help me give my students a memorable year by contributing to a classroom filled with flexible seating, an organized library, and educational activities.
Do you remember walking into your first school and the excitement it brought? My students will hopefully experience this feeling twice this year. Due to Covid, my kindergarteners experienced their first day virtually. Although it was not a typical first day of school, the students were excited to meet their new friends and eager to learn. When the governor allows, my students will be entering our kindergarten classroom for the first time and experience the first day jitters all over again.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, it is important our class instill a love of learning and an eagerness to attend school. I want those excited feelings they feel the first day entering the classroom, to continue all year long. Since I am new to kindergarten, several of the materials that help students love to learn are not at my disposal.
I would love to incorporate flexible and fun seating for students outside of the basic school chairs the district provides.
The wobble cushions and rockers will allow my 5 year olds to get some wiggles out while they're constructively learning. The colorful stools will allow for closer proximity and more flexibility when collaborating in groups. Most importantly, all of my seating is easy to clean, which is important when working with young kids.
Hands on opportunities are important in kindergarten as they build spatial recognition and social skills. Educational toys and activities such as Magnadoodles and letter stamps will help students grow not only educationally, but socially and creatively as well. Students enjoy playing with these materials which will encourage a love of learning. Since kindergarten is the stepping stone for a long path through education, isn't it important they are eager to attend?
