Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the hardest working, most energetic, loving children. They are living through adversity and thriving. Our Academy is a Title 1 school located in the Cole neighborhood with 98% of students eligible to receive free or reduced lunch. Our student population is made up of black and Latino students, with 50% of students being English Learners.

Some students have the most amazing growth academically, while others show their amazing strength in overcoming difficulties in social emotional growth.

No matter what, these students all deserve to have the resources they need to help them do their best.

My Project

My students are just finding out what interests them. They are on the verge of becoming amazing readers. With these books, they will become avid readers. Some of my students have never left the block they live on.

By reading an issue of Scholastic News, they can learn about the world around them, and become stronger at reading comprehension.

Cynthia Rylant is such a fun and witty author. I love doing a read- aloud so the students can have book club conversations about the text after listening to a wonderful story. The books I have chosen will enhance my library so that students have more books that are interesting and accessible.
