I work for a close knit community that is located in the heart of South Houston. South Houston Elementary is a safe and loving environment that welcomes and accommodates a diverse group of students. My students are energetic, inquisitive and ready to learn. As they walk in my classroom my students let their personalities shine. Regardless of their diversities they are loving and accepting of all cultures. Although, my students have different needs they see each other as a family and they work together so that all members of the family succeed.
As a first year teacher, I came into a wonderful and inviting school that has gracefully donated used books to my growing library for which I am thankful for. However, my classroom library lacks award winning books that my students can identify with. Additionally, I would like my students to feel comfortable as they are exposed to great books.
My goal is to provide an environment were my students can leave behind the stress that Hurricane Harvey left them with.
Many of my students lost their homes during the storm and are still facing the aftermath of it. I want to provide a safe classroom library were they can find a sense of normality as they continue to become life long readers.
