My students come to school eager to learn together. They come from many different backgrounds and cultures and bring with them a vast array of experiences and strengths.
The words we live by in our diverse, urban first grade classroom are, “The harder you work, the smarter you get!" Everyday you will see us setting goals and pursuing our hopes and dreams with focus.

At our K-8 performing arts magnet, more than half of our students are English language learners. We work hard every day to provide rigorous culturally relevant instruction that inspires achievement in and through the arts.
My Project
It seems that no matter how many great books we have in our classroom library, we never have enough at the beginning levels. Research shows that emergent readers grow the most when they are reading books with 95-98% accuracy. For my beginning readers this means that they could read ten books or more during their independent reading time... each day! And they will!
Your contribution will not only boost our beginning level book collection, but also give each first grader a waterproof tote bag so that they can bring their just right books home safely.
