This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a third grade classroom in the New Orleans area! We are a small, growing charter school with diverse learners. Our school involves very individualized and directed learning.
We are a classroom of risk takers and problem solvers!
Many of my students do not have their own books at home but are eager to read. As a young teacher, I am currently working on growing my own classroom library as well as providing other resources to help students gain more background knowledge in various content areas! I am hoping to have a slew of social-emotional literature in our classroom library! My students love working in small groups and learning together. Through collaborative learning, our classroom is full of creativity and excitement. Through more social-emotional literature, I hope to see students working together and understanding each other's differences.
My Project
My students have been engaged in units on social and emotional skills all school year! One thing that I have found to be missing is the texts in my library to aid in modeling appropriate social and emotional skills. The literature in this project will support my students in these skills revolving around having a growth mindset as well as relationships with their peers and others outside of school. Each of these books enhance our lessons. My students love listening to these quality books in read-alouds and then reading each of them themselves during their silent reading time.
Each of these books models various characters that have a healthy growth mindset in their lives as well as positive relationships with others.
These models will aid my students in working on their own power of YET as well as communication with their friends and family.
