Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class are hard-working, capable, and eager to excel. They range in age from nine to ten years old. The school is located in urban Las Vegas and is a STEAM magnet school that attracts students who are inventive and love to explore and create. They are given many opportunities to collaborate in order to problem solve, build, and create. These are opportunities that they may not be given in the communities where they live, so they are eager to come to school to learn and grow!
My Project
After attending a Kagan workshop called "Brain Friendly Teaching," I have become a huge believe in the power of Kagan and Cooperative Learning!
These materials will help me learn more about Kagan Structures, which help boost student engagement.
With Kagan Structures, instead of calling on one student and only engaging them, you essentially call on the whole class, and everyone gets an opportunity to share and be engaged. With the Cooperative Learning book and the 59 Kagan Structures book, I hope to learn more about different strategies to use in my classroom.
The other materials will be used to help transform my classroom into a Cooperative Learning classroom. I hope to display the Kagan Structure posters so that students will always have something to reference when learning how to use the structures and to remind them later on.
Help me create a space where student engagement is at an all time high! Thank you!
