My Students
My students come from a low income school in a very diverse area. They come from varying backgrounds and with many different experiences and many of our students have experienced trauma in their lives. We work hard to make sure that all our students feel safe and cared for.
They are enrolled in a Dual Language Immersion class, and spend half of their day with me in English and half of their day in Spanish.
In the short amount of time I have them, I want to create an environment where they can learn, grow, create, explore and play.
My Project
I am asking for a place to build our community. A new rug to brighten our room and create a happy space.
A classroom carpet is the center of the room, it is where we start and end each day as well as gather to learn new things and discuss ideas.
The carpet that I have in my room now, was bought by my grandparents and other family members 14 years ago. In those 14 years, around 500 students have crossed over it. Along with those students comes their dirt and accidents, cold and flu season, glue and markers. As much as we clean and disinfect, it is time for a new rug.
I am also asking for some individual carpet circles that will allow my students to have an individual work area or comfy place to read and work.
