I have 28 third grade students, and we live in a low economic area. A large percentage of our students receive free/reduced price lunches. We are a diverse group with a full range of skills and ability levels.
We spend a lot of time building our classroom community, and my students learn to work together while being held accountable for their individual contributions.
Through collaboration on problem solving assignments and classroom projects, they become a community of learners who support each other's strengths and creativity.
My Project
These tables are essential to the learning environment because they will allow for flexible seating and grouping, collaboration, and team work on larger project based learning activities. When students encourage their peers, share their insight, and pose thought provoking questions learning is elevated to a whole new level. As a teacher, it is important to me that all of my students are included in every activity. Tables provide a natural way for every student be part of the learning group. By minimizing the distraction of items in student's desks they are able to focus on the task or assignment at hand. Dividers will only be used when privacy is needed, and storage bins will be essential for students to keep their materials organized.
