Building a Community of Diverse Learners Through Play!

Help me give my students PVC pipes, links, and corner link so they can build a bocce court, learn problem-solving and social engagement, and play a new game together with their friends with disabilities.

My Students

The students in my classes are hard working. They do the best they can with what they have. They are resilient and many have overcome multiple obstacles and challenges to be where they are today.

I teach students who live in a very rural part of the Western North Carolina Mountains.

Many students work as children to help their families. Many of my students come from homes where their parents/guardians work hard to provide for their families, but have low incomes.

My Project

The materials my student and I are requesting will be used to make a movable Bocce Court. Students who are hands on learners and excel in project based activities have actually helped me write this grant! By ordering, pricing, constructing the court, my students will learn valuable grade level content through a real world, meaningful project.

We will be using each piece requested to build a court that students with and without disabilities can use for recess and ultimately training for Special Olympics Unified Bocce Competition!!

The tubing is linked together by the connectors to form the rectangular boundaries of the court and makes a durable, lasting frame for competition. The materials provide a visual cue for students with disabilities and helps contain the game to the specified area of play.
