My students need books bins to store leveled texts in the classroom library as well as their own book bins for independent reading time. The Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seat as flexible seating will also help students in my classroom.
I am a first year teacher working in a Title I District. The group of students I will be teaching are very unique and different from any other group of student I have had the pleasure of teaching over the past year. Many students in my class come from low income households and close to 80% of my district is on free or reduced lunch. Some of my students are ELL and need extra support. Most teachers in the district spend their own money buying supplies for their students because there are no extra funds.
I want to give my students the best learning experience possible and I hope to do that by getting them the supplies they need to have a successful and productive year in second grade.
It is important to me that my students experiences in school are meaningful and they are able to feel like part of a community, free from the stresses of their home-life.
My Project
As a new teacher, I feel building a classroom library that has a range of reading levels will help to meet the needs of all my students. The larger book bins will be used for our classroom library, while the smaller book bins will be used for the books my students choose for their independent reading time. The Flex-Space seat will give students a flexible seating option during their independent reading time.
My goal is to build a classroom library where my students can select from a range of books at their reading level, which will hopefully encourage them to find a love for reading.
