Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a very energetic group of 3rd graders who love to explore and learn! They are from a low-income Connecticut community with many challenges which they don't let get in their way. This will be our 2nd year together as I was there 2nd grade teacher and we're all moving up to 3rd grade together!
They love to learn and show what they have learned in creative ways.
We sing or dance daily. We show kindness to one another and greet each other every day with a smile.
They often have obstacles in their way. Whether it be language barriers, having special needs, or not able to get the fundamental needs one has at home, but they always smile and they always try their best. They deserve the best!
My Project
This will be my first year teaching third grade, I will be moving up from second grade with my class from this past year. We are all very excited! My classroom library, which I have been building up for many years, is no longer appropriate for this grade level, plus they have spent all this last year reading the books. The students can use some new third grade leveled books to read independently in the classroom and also to borrow to take home for their nightly reading log homework. I choose a fiction chapter book series set I know the children will enjoy and also a nonfiction set the students will learn from. This will be a good start to building our classroom library!
