I have eighteen amazing pre-k students. They live in an urban area and face many struggles and challenges.
School is a very important place for them.
It is a safe place where they come to grow, learn and explore. I truly love teaching them and helping them to build their foundation for future learning. They absorb new information like sponges and have an excitement for life. They always keep me laughing with their funny stories and sayings.
I look forward to watching them grow and learn this school year.
My Project
We recently had the opportunity to participate in a professional development on restorative justice. We learned just how important it is to build a classroom community where all students are accepted and included. We also learned that students need to feel safe and comfortable to discuss how they are feeling and also to problem solve and work through conflicts.
I would love to be able to have the book Circle Forward.
This would help me to know how to conduct circles and also provide me with questions and activities for my students. I would also love the the team building activities book because it would provide me with fun ways to get my students to bond and work together as a team.
The best part about Restorative Justice is that students are able to explain their feelings, explore ideas and solve problems. It creates a classroom community where everyone feels safe and students are aware of how their actions affect others. In order to build background knowledge for my students, I am requesting picture books. Many of the books have to do with emotions, including everyone and solving conflicts. All of the books are developmentally appropriate and would be a great way to start restorative conversations.
