Variety is the spice of life. That explains my group of students perfectly. They are full of life. They are excited to attend class daily and despite the obstacles they face, they strive to succeed.
My students deserve opportunities to learn in unique ways.
With minimal field trip opportunities and limited funding, students do not always get to explore content material in a way that would spark interest for future endeavors.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Education is on the rise but my classroom materials are limited. My students deserve to be afforded the chance to learn and explore through STEM education activities. It is exciting to think about how engaging in STEM activities could lead to their future careers and passions. It starts here. It starts now.
My Project
Providing STEM education now can lead to a brighter future. Research continues to show that trends lend themselves to more and more jobs falling into STEM related areas with each passing year. Students need to be exposed to these areas.
I want to be able to provide my students opportunities to explore on a smaller scale by providing them opportunities to actively create, explore, and expand their ways of thinking.
Students will use the blocks and planks to complete challenges and create structures based on specific requirements and differentiated options. These items will help turn abstract concepts into tangible form. They can gain a better understanding of various mathematical and scientific concepts such as number sense and physical force in action. Such items as the KNEX Maker kit and Marble Run set provide alternative challenges and promote open ended creativity.
The Keva Bot Maze will allow my students to experience basic engineering concepts. Students use the provided materials to engineer mazes of different difficulty levels and then they get to see their hard work put into action as the Bot works its way through their personally designed maze.
In addition to the materials I am seeking to provide my students and due to limited storage in my classroom, I am requesting storage containers to house these amazing resources.
Many of my students have had little to no exposure to these types of activities and these materials will provide them amazing opportunities to experience STEM education in their classroom.
