Help me give my students increased cultural and linguistic immersion through a print-rich classroom. We are building out our student library and are in need of texts written in both Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

These books will continue enhancing the print-rich classroom I strive to create for our students grades 5-8. The Book Nook is a place where students can engage with reading at their level to improve their fluency. As we build out the library, I hope to engage students in English, but also the language in which they are educated (Spanish or Mandarin depending on the program within the school). This will allow them to increase their fluency and skill in both languages that they have learned. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have watched them read titles just like these the past few weeks of school, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of texts in Spanish or Mandarin, depending on their language program, that will allow them to read independently at their own level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in their literacy skills, not only in their native language of English, but the language of their education program as well (Spanish or Mandarin). My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
