In my school district, poverty effects almost every student. Located in rural Montana on the Flathead Indian reservation, over 80% of students qualify for free lunch and more than 50% enter Kindergarten without any prior early childhood education. Many students enter kindergarten having never written their name or even read a book. While it may seem hard to believe in this day and age, poverty directly impacts every facet of their lives and affects their ability to learn and communicate with the world around them. I desperately need your assistance to help my students escape the barriers of poverty and provide them with the opportunities to be successful in school and life.
I have a classroom full of creative students who are eager to learn.
Your donation will enable me to activate my students' imaginations while enhancing foundational literacy and mathematical skills through engaging and creative Lego building activities.
My Project
LEGOs are always a favorite play time activity for all students, boys and girls alike. By funding this project, I will be able to use LEGOs for more than our social and emotional play time. Taking learning beyond paper and pencil, to engaging and highly motivating activities that advance foundational literacy and mathematical skills. Students will use LEGOs to expand critical reading skills by building CVC and sight words, as well as enhancing crucial mathematical skills such as spatial awareness, counting, adding and subtracting, and developing perseverance through a variety of problem solving activities. The possibilities are endless, and I am eager to share this exciting opportunity with my students. By funding this project, you will be making a significant impact on my students for years to come.
There is no greater joy then being part of creating and witnessing a child's life-long love for knowledge, and I look forward to sharing this experience with you.
