My Students

I teach Band at MWMS. I am one of 2 band directors at my school. We have a socially and economically diverse population of students. Our makeup includes a large number of students who receive free and reduced-price lunches every year. Our band has a history of competition and community performances. MWMS consistently places multiple students in All-County Band, All-District Band, and All-State Band as well as receiving superior ratings at Concert Band Music Performance Adjudication. The students at MWMS are full of energy and work hard for us to achieve our goals. We strive to include as many students as possible in the band because we feel it is important for students to have this opportunity.

My Project

These materials will make beginning percussion available to my general music classes which in turn sometimes generates new members for the band classes. It will also allow students to check out a pad who can't afford a drum to practice at home so they will be able to review the information covered in class and complete assignments that have been loaded into Canvas. We try to use as many resources as possible to get students interested and keep them interested in band. If we can recruit 5 new students who missed out on starting in the 6th grade in 4 years that equates to 20 more band students in the high school Band.
