My students need hands-on science kits to build skills. These supplies will enhance their work in units focused on force and motion, our earth, and electricity.
A typical day is an engaged teacher and engaged students. I want my students to remember the experiences we shared together. We have our ups and downs, but if we continue to push forward, as a team, we will succeed with our goals. Our quote: "The most incredible achievement is that you have grown."
In a class of only 13 students, we embraced the knowledge early on in the school year that we had the opportunity for so much learning to occur, because of the student to teacher ratio we are fortunate to have.
These are urban students, many of them with challenges at home. The classroom is a safe, comfortable environment for them. It has to be, in order for them to grow academically. The joy on their faces lets me know that they are glad to come to school each day. And that is because of the room they are walking into.
My Project
My students need hands-on science kits to build skills. These supplies will enhance their work in units focused on force and motion, our earth, and electricity. Hands-on, project-based learning is the essence of science and the engineering process. As groups of students work together, they collaborate, think critically and creatively, and communicate with one another. Their learning is enhanced as a result. And because engineering activities are based on real-world technologies and problems, they help children see how disciplines like math and science are relevant to their lives.
Early introduction to science and engineering practices can encourage many capable students, especially girls and minorities, to consider engineering as a career and take the necessary science and math courses in high school.
Science and engineering activities often require students to work in teams, where they build the collaboration and communication skills critical for career success in any field.
