My Students

As Barack Obama states, "Computers are going to be part a big part of our future ... and that future is yours to shape." As educators, it is our responsibility to prepare our students to be productive members of the twenty-first century in the field of computer science.

I teach a dynamic bunch of enthusiastic and creative fourth-grade students who will prepare for a bright future.

My biggest challenge is having technology resources for all children to prepare them for jobs in computer science. My goal is to try to develop a develop resources for STEM activities. The students can use the Makey Makey to invent their own creations and they can use the marble genius kit for fun STEM activities. I teach a multicultural fourth-grade class in a Title I school with limited resources. By the end of the year, I expect to see my students' reading, math, science, and social studies levels to rise.

My Project

Michael Jordan states, "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." As teachers who teach computer science, we are teaching children life lessons and how to get back in the game even after missing on multiple attempts. Lots of times in the classroom students will say, " I cannot do it” or “It does not work." My classroom is in need of an two makey makeys and a marble madness genius kit to provide enrichment in STEM. Building marble obstacle courses can teach children about innovation. Students can build, explore, experiment, and tinker with coding objects as they solve real-world problems in STEM. This fascinating kit will allow children to use their inner imagination and creativity to invent "STEMTASTIC" creations as they light up our world. This is a creative coding tool to prepare our children for the next generation in STEM. The two makey makeys will allow students to invent their creations by making interactive posters come to life and the students can create and code their own robot dolls from the book, Doll -E 1.0.

This school year, the NYC Public Schools believes, "Every child has one shot at an excellent education.

It's up to us to make sure they get it. Let's shape the next generation of New York's voices and minds. Let's transform dreamers into doers. Let's empower students in every neighborhood on their path to success as we pave the way for our Equity and Excellence for All initiative in computer science." Let's provide my students with these resources so that they can become little engineers of tomorrow.
