Mrs. Thompson from New Orleans LA is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need building supplies such as Legos and K'nex sets, in order to learn the value of working together as a team, follow and give directions, and develop creativity.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Have you ever wondered how buildings or bridges were built? My scholars are eager to experience being an architecture, a leader, a construction worker, and a team player through building sets. I would like them to step into the shoes of these careers and see what it takes to be successful.
My scholars are amazing second, third, and fourth graders who are working there way to college.
They are eager to learn, explore, and teach each other. We speak daily about their future and what it takes to have successful careers as they work their way towards their goal of attending college. Our school promotes never giving up, learning from each other, taking care of each other, attending college, pride, enthusiasm, responsibility and being a part of a school family. Their teachers are an extension of their own family and go above and beyond for them. With these tools, we can create the steps to assist them in achieving this goal.
With the use of the Lego and K'nects building sets, my scholars will be able to experience potential careers that involve building. We will discuss the types of jobs that are involved with building, what materials are needed, the importance of being responsible (being on time etc...) on a job, the importance of working together as a team, and what skills are needed to work at a particular job. We will agree on a building project, assign jobs, talk about salary and benefits, develop a timeline for completion of the project, and our end goal. We will bridge this project into social studies, science, writing, reading, and math lessons. Scholars will see how their daily lessons relate to careers.
Your donation will help scholars to have a hands-on project to help them to learn how to function on a job no matter what type of career you chose.
This will give them something tangible to relate to, in addition to the classroom lessons they receive. This will give them the exposure to the skills and discipline needed to be successful in any career.
