My Students

We have an amazing group of young people who have come together to create a classroom filled with academic risk-taking and encouragement. The students are given opportunities to critically think, problem solve, collaborate, and encourage one another to foster creativity. Giving students the opportunity to create a computer will push them to work together towards a common goal while implementing STEM practices.

My students are eager to learn and even more eager to prove to themselves that they can do anything they set their minds to.

This year, we are focusing on having a growth mindset. We are willing to experience new learning environments, without the fear of failure. The classroom environment is very positive and our class works well together as a team while encouraging one another. We are a diverse school where students come from all over the world, speaking a variety of languages. We all come together and create an amazing place to learn. Creating an environment where students are able to implement team building strategies to make their own functioning computer will engage them in learning!

My Project

These 3 Piper Computer Kits will challenge all students in the classroom to work together and build their own functioning computer from scratch.

The possibilities are endless when students learn how to program and code!

There are 5 easy steps:

1. Build the computer using a real engineering blueprint

2. Play Minecraft: Pi Edition and build electronics to solve challenges

3. Code your electronics and create your own head-to-head-games

4. Extend Piper with 3D design, 3D printing, music projects, and more

5. Disassemble and reuse over and over again

Students will learn coding, programming, and teamwork throughout the entire creating process. This challenge will push the students to think outside of the box. Their critical thinking skills will improve while they take risks in the classroom. Students will practice their growth mindset as they work through the obstacles that present themselves during the creation process. Help us be able to build our own working computers! Please feel free to visit the Piper Website at https://www.playpiper.com/ for more information.
