I work with a variety of students through my job as an Instructional Technology Coach. I usually see 300 bright and eager faces on a weekly basis. One of the perks of my jobs is working in small groups with the students. As my students are learning from home during NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) and doing their classwork, it is difficult for me to keep them engaged in the work I would like for them to do. I have assigned some 'fun' websites, but have had very little response. The only resource I have is my computer and my imagination right now! Learning and working with technology was their favorite part of their day; being at home has been hard for them. Hopefully, this project will allow them to feel success again even while at home!
My Project
Are your students bored? disengaged? I know some of mine are. I am in the process of creating robotic kits to keep them engaged with learning. I have access to some robots but need to add more in order to reach more kids.
My students want to be engaged with learning so I am creating robotic kits for use at home.
I researched to find something that will grow with them and these Edison robots fit the bill! They will start out with simple skills like programming Edison to follow a line they draw but then, they will be able to level up. They'll then use LEGO bricks they already have to invent some of their own structures. Finally, they can teach each other some basic commands with programming language through Zoom These robots interact with their environment, avoiding obstacles as well as tracking lines. Additionally, the EdCreate kits will allow them to think outside the box and hopefully create additional machines that use the robots as drivers.
