This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a classroom of 6 typically developing children, and 6 children that have identified disabilities ranging in age from 3 to 5 years old. However, we have two other classrooms in our building one that mirrors mine, and a head-start classroom of 17. So, in total we have 41 preschoolers moving throughout the three classrooms working on various projects and learning from all our wonderful staff. Preschool children in general are very hands on and active, and as you can imagine sharing is a difficult task in any classroom.
My Project
We all have a classroom set of wooden blocks. We have made many different types of building blocks together as a class, but it’s a favorite area of our classroom that is in need. The children have a variety of disabilities that can prevent them from lifting heavy materials such as our large wooden blocks. The plan is be able to change the types of blocks in our block center to assist with the children’s imagination in building, and the weight and size of the actual blocks. We plan to rotate the sets between our three preschool classrooms. Together we can build our village together!
