My students need these important items to take their sensory learning to the next level of "hands-on" through multiple varieties of STEM learning toys.
My class consists of 25 enthusiastic, creative, and excited first graders. They love coming to school daily as it is their safe place, and a stable second home for them. They have very little, so every little bit helps get them that much more engaged at school. Our school is a Title I school in a low socioeconomically challenged area. My students are not given the luxury of having technology in their homes, so I hope that I can provide them with some fun technology to help enhance our learning and creative sides in the classroom.
My Project
Each of the materials I added to our class "wish list" will help push the child's learning to the next level through creativity. So many students struggle with learning because they are told to sit at a desk all day and listen to what is being told to them. Students need to be able to move, explore, build, break, touch, laugh, talk, and so much more in order to "learn" on their own. I believe that it is important for students to learn through their imaginations while playing and building friendships with others. I have added blocks to push their minds to build creative structures, paint dot pens to help them with their fine motor skills while creating a picture they like, fake food items to let them build friendships and come out of their shells socially while pretending to cook food with friends, and many other items that require them to learn on their own.
These items are going to be new and exciting to 4 year olds, and I imagine a classroom filled with laughing, joy, smiles, and friendships built while exploring these colorful shiny new toys!
