My students need hands on activities to help them learn. Though using Classic Games students can learn proper turn taking, and social skills through play. This will also help them practice proper conversational skills.
I work at a special education school as a Speech Teacher, serving emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, and other special education classified students. Our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds from all five Burroughs of New York City. Over 95% of the student body is eligible for free lunch, and more than 90% receive public assistance.
My students need very explicit direct instruction to help them succeed.
I want to give them the strategies and the experiences to help them broaden their horizons and help them reach their full potential. I believe by providing them with hands on activities and real life experiences, I can help them expand their knowledge and language skills. Every child deserves to be given the same opportunities to learn.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students will help build their social skills in a fun way, while maintaining their motivation. Many of my students have a difficult time following rules and lack proper turn taking skills, and this will help teach them the fundamentals of following rules and turn taking. It will also allow them to use skills like memory, reasoning, and conversational skills.
Through the use of the Classic Games Set my students will have opportunities to learn many basic social skills such as turn taking, following directions, and conversational skills.
Through the use of these hands on activities my students will learn the basic social skills necessary to be productive in all school activities.
