As a kindergarten teacher, it is very important to me to help my students build a foundation for their future education. One of the most important areas that a student will always need is the ability to read. Many of my students come from low income homes, as well as broken families. I want to be sure in my classroom these students have the opportunity to read on the appropriate level to build their foundation. As Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more that you'll know", and I want to help my students with the more places they go!
My Project
Many of my students come from low income, broken family homes where many parents are not involved in their child's education. As their teacher, I feel it is my responsibility to provide them with as many resources as possible while they are in our classroom. Books can be expensive for parents to purchase, and many parents also do not realize that their child should be reading on a specific level. Having a leveled library will help me build my students reading ability, and provide for many opportunities for my students to grow and exceed the levels that they began on.
With the funding of this project, my students will have the ability to access books that are appropriate for them and will build their reading skills as well as their confidence!
