Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Third Grade is an exciting time of transition for students. I have the honor of being one of the first intermediate teachers a child will meet. At our elementary school, my Morning Meeting is an engaging way to connect with my students at the beginning of each day. Along with teaching reading, I establish a culture of kindness, citizenship with my ELL (English Language Learners) students, and give them ownership of the classroom and teach responsibility.
It's so rewarding to see my students grasp a new skill or concept and be excited about learning.
Young children are truly like sponges and absorb information at an alarming rate! When children are given the opportunity to PLAY and learn with developmentally appropriate materials, they blossom before our eyes. The curiosity and eagerness that my students exhibit for learning about the world around them never ceases to amaze me.
My Project
The VersaTiles will help my students build math and literacy proficiency in a challenging, rewarding way. This is a great tool to use for independent practice and for use in small groups, rotations, centers, and stations. It will also be a great use to engage screen-free alternative to traditional skills practice, and it is aligned to state and national standards. The VersaTiles kit will be a great opportunity for my students to gain independence by using the self-checking answer system. It will create a safe learning environment that increases student confidence. The use of manipulatives will help my students hone their mathematical thinking skills.
