Our students are a diverse group. Second grade is a time to learn academic skills as well as social skills and problem-solving. We want our students to use have STEM materials to help them learn problem-solving and how to work in a group.
Our students are active and eager!
They need many opportunities to learn in different ways and in different contexts. The more we engage them the quicker they will learn. By providing hands-on materials to teach more effectively, my students can continue to learn at high levels.
My Project
My students need experience with creating things as well as working together. After over a year out of school, students need to be active and creative. They are craving making things and being active. Not only do they need to create they need to re-learn how to cooperate and work with others. By providing them with STEM activities to build I will be able to provide them with opportunities to create.
Whenever we do centers, art or exploration, my children thrive.
This year I have added a STEM or build it center to each of my centers. The students love to build and are learning how to work well with their peers to cooperate and make something together. They are so happy to create together.
We have a small amount of LEGO bricks in our room and the children love creating things with them. I have STEM projects for them to make things like robots, bridges, playgrounds etc. With having more legos, magnetic tiles and other building materials we can have more building challenges. I also can use them with our buddy class. If we had more materials (LEGO sets, magnetic tiles and other building materials) we could have more difficult STEM challenges with our 4th grade buddies. This will promote engineering, creativity and cooperation.
My students also love to create artistically. We have learned about different famous artists and created pieces in a similar style. If we have water colors we can have another medium to use to create art in different ways.
Help me to provide them with materials that will help them to be creative, artistic and cooperative. I can't wait to watch them create and grow!
