Help me give my students the opportunity to express themselves with LEGO bricks while maintaining fine motor skills, all while keeping safe in the time of Covid with their own materials!
My students are everything. They’re the reason I am able to get out of bed every morning and the reason I smile throughout my day. I'd be nothing without them, and I certainly gain as much from them as I give.
My school is in an area surrounding a large university, so my students come from diverse international, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
This provides me with countless opportunities for exciting learning experiences with my students every day. Usually, my classroom is a place full of think-pair-share activities and partner work, but that just isn's feasible given the restrictions we are required to follow this year.
We have one week of school under our belts, and I can already tell my little friends need a new outlet. That's why I came to DonorsChoose to help create a new way to experience the world and share with each other within my classroom.
My Project
Why LEGOs in a fourth grade classroom? Because my students deserve the chance to explore and grow their minds despite having to maintain physical distance.
Each year, I try my best to give my students an exciting opportunity to learn in a new way.
This year, I have 7 (planning on 8) students in person and several learning from home. So much has to be done on computers to prepare for the possibility of remote learning that I am worried about my students' fine motor skills. I have given them play doh to explore and create with; we sculpt throughout read alouds as one fun classroom activity. Something I would really love to implement in my classroom is the use of LEGOs.
If I had a LEGO kit for each student, I would be able to have them create for every single class. I am hoping to obtain 8 basic LEGO sets to use throughout this school year. They can be sanitized and used over and over.
