This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a teacher at a Title I School where a majority of my students are low income. These students often come from disadvantaged home lives, and school is a key component in helping to break that cycle. My students are extremely hardworking and loving! They come to school every day ready to learn, even when there are not many people in their corner.
Our school serves the south side of town, which was tremendously affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Many of our students move around often and do not have a stable home life.
My Project
I am very excited about this particular project for my class! I have never conducted a breakout activity in my classroom but I have seen it first hand in another classroom and the students absolutely LOVE THEM!
I am adding a twist to this breakout activity by integrating the STEM aspect to it!
The students will have to use the legos provided to them and build a specific tower, bridge, or other creation depending on the teachers instructions. Once they build their creation, they will escape that portion of the breakout and move on to the next task.
After the breakout is complete, the lego creations will be displayed for all of the students to see in the library! The kids will have no idea they are doing STEM during this interactive and creative way of teaching in the classroom!
