I work in a Title I elementary school media center that serves students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Over half of the students are on free/reduced-price lunch. Students are eager to come to the library each week to check out books and this year I am super excited because I am introducing a MakerSpace to students. The students are eager to begin this hands-on part of the library each week! The idea behind Makerspace is to provide a place for students to discover, create, invent, and understand through making.
Students of every age love to build and the KEVA Connect Sets will be a great resource to give my students this opportunity. What makes this set extra nice are the clips that bind the blocks together. This will make it easier for the younger students, as well as the special needs students.
These materials will promote higher-order thinking skills, collaborative groups and also allow students to "think outside of the box" and take risks without the fear of failing.
My students will benefit by using hands-on materials to learn basic architectural designs and math concepts. This hands-on project will be student-centered and learning will take place every time the KEVA Connect Sets are used!
