Build It And They Will Come. Build Words And They'll Read!
My students need hands-on materials, such as word work centers and a Folder Game Library, to use during our center time and Daily 5 time that will focus on creating, writing and reading words.
"Build it and they will come." This is a quote made famous from the baseball movie, "Field of Dreams", that was filmed in rural Iowa. I believe that if my students have the materials to build words, they will be able to read!
My students live in rural Iowa in a high poverty school district.
They overcome numerous problems at home that many adults never have to face. However, despite these circumstances, they still arrive each day with bright, eager faces ready to learn. Like almost all children, when they can become engaged in learning through the use of games and play, success follows at a higher rate. I may not be able to fix their troubles at home, but I will do all that I can to inspire them during their time spent at school.
My Project
The resources that I am requesting are all hands-on word work centers, that can either be played individually or in groups. The materials cover a range of varying materials, including: twisting letter rods to create words, file folder games to find words, and foam letters to match onto word cards.
I will never be able to provide my students financially the opportunities for trips and lavish gifts.
However, I will be able to provide them the beginning foundation that they need to further their dreams/goals by providing them an opportunity to learn to read and write. While reading, their minds will be able to take them to unimaginable places. Your generous gift will provide an opportunity to contribute to the dreams of numerous students, not only this year's class but for many future years.
