My students study physics and engineering. We also have a large focus on robotics as a way to apply STEM principles in an engaging way. As we expand our program, there is a need to expand our inventory of parts to keep up with this demand.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and are all bright and capable of great things.
Recently, there has been a sharp upturn in students who cannot afford to bring the necessary materials and need our help. They study physics and engineering and need access to the expanded support technology that we can provide. They compete in regional events in engineering design and physics and cannot do so without these tools. My students are dedicated and spend countless hours before and after school as well as at lunch working on their projects. As they work on more advanced projects, we need to be able to have access to the parts that we do have.
My Project
My students compete in the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) and they recently updated the standard screws and tools used from hex (allen) to star (TORX).
These screws / tools are much stronger and allow us more flexibility in our designs.
Students get quickly frustrated when screws strip and are unable to be removed or fixed. We also would like to upgrade some of our aluminum parts to allow wider variety in designs and ability to build/create.
These tools and parts will be available to use for years to come and will keep our school ready to compete in the future.
