Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in Victoria, Texas. Victoria was hit by Hurricane Harvey in September of 2017. Our school had significant damage and renovations have recently been completed on our campus. In the year since the hurricane, our teachers have come together to make our school a family.
Our students have risen above the challenges of a city in clean-up mode.
Many of their homes are still, over a year out, in need of repairs, but my students are dedicated to learning.
We are a diverse campus with passionate teachers who serve students who are economically disadvantaged and at-risk. Many have special needs, and all of these students are twenty-first century learners. We are a Title I school where most of our students receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch.
My Project
These activities will give my students a fun learning environment to explore and build while working independently or cooperatively with their classmates. Many of my students are familiar with LEGO bricks and love to build with them.
I want to give my students the opportunity to explore angles while composing and decomposing shapes by providing them with tools they aren't as familiar with.
The architect kit will encourage students to explore how different shapes work together to create buildings and bridges. The marble run will also support the science being taught in my class by allowing students to explore the force of gravity.
