Welcome to our school with all of our amazing students! We are an inner-city, public elementary school with over 475 PreK-6 grade students. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch and we are also able to provide about 30 families with weekend backpacks of food. We have students from all over our diverse city and I am lucky to teach and get to know each and every one of them.
Being a STEAM school, it is essential that I explore and introduce hands-on, STEAM activities so that my students are exposed to new science, technology, engineering, arts, and math curriculum.
I teach all students in our school but for this project, I will be using these supplies with students in grades 4 and 5.
I have been lucky enough to be teaching in my district for 26 years and am grateful for each and every day with my students. Students keep thanking me for the new resources and supplies, and I tell them it couldn’t happen without your support!
My Project
I would like to start "build days" with my students and they will need to learn how to use hammers and nails to assemble various wood projects. After assembling the projects, they will decorate with paint and markers and take them home to enjoy. Having the proper sized hammers that my students can easily use to build their projects with will make a huge difference with assembly. I also need to make sure that we are following safety precautions so I am also asking for safety goggles.
My students need kid sized hammers, safety goggles and paint brushes to build and decorate projects such as bird feeders, bald eagles, ladder trucks, helicopters and more.
Currently, I only have a few adult hammers that are very bulky and heavy and I don't have any goggles for my students to use. My students are excited and are looking forward to our "build days". I absolutely love that they are excited and it gives them a fun and educational experience that they can complete independently.
