Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are hardworking, bright, young individuals. They attend school each and every day, ready to learn and meet all high expectations. Some students come before school, during lunch and after school to engage themselves in our technology club. My students love challenges and face difficulties each and every day, with smiles on their faces, no less.
My students come from a Title I school with a high population of English learners.
Most come from a low income household and have limited resources and experiences. To many of my students, their only chance of life-enriching activities are at school. They love school and I want to make this place the most enriching place for them!
My Project
The M-TECH club members are at the beginning of their tech careers. They will gain much needed experience building and coding their own mini-computers. From setting the heat syncs, plunging everything in and installing the software they are gaining the knowledge of the interworking of a small computer. Once built they will design and print 3D cases for the Raspberry Pi to be placed in.
Using Minecraft Raspberry Pi edition students will code with Python to manipulate their world.
M-TECH club members are at the beginning stages of coding. Giving these students an opportunity to manipulate a world through code from a computer they built will advance them with knowledge that will last well beyond middle school.
Students will use problem solving skills to write, repair and rewrite code to create this Minecraft world they envision. The Raspberry Pi will be a much needed addition to activities with in Mission's M-Tech Club.
