My students come inside the classroom with big smiles, ready to start each day. I teach a group of amazing and smart pre-kindergarteners in an inclusion class. Every year I look forward to meeting and welcoming eighteen, 4-5 year olds, to my classroom. For many of these students, it is often, their first experience in a school setting having exposure to organized instruction as well as limited technology / screen time. My students possess an array of abilities and challenges from, special needs to English as a second language.
My Project
My students are quite the energetic type. They love to jump, run, and move! Significant brain research shows that being active during learning, both between and during lessons, activates the brain and makes learning more efficient. Unfortunately, our school does not offer special area classes like gym, music or art for pre-k so while I try to incorporate many movement breaks, and have recess twice a day, our classroom just does not have supplies that cater to their physical needs. We do not have any outdoor equipment. We have a space to run and play tag, one structure with a few slides and that is about it. My children keep asking if they can have some balls and jump ropes to play with.
To get my little learners up and going, our classroom desperately needs some items to get them active.
Balls, a parachute, jump ropes and hula hoops, Oh, the joy these items will bring during outdoor time will be indescribable! They will get to develop their gross motor skills, and build good friendly skills, develop problem solving solutions and foster healthy relationships too. Your donation will make 54 pre-kindergarten children very happy! They will remember all the fun times in Pre-K for the rest of their lives. While I only have 18 in my class, there are two other pre-kindergarten classes who I would love to share with.
