This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Pre-K through 6th grade Title I school, located outside of NYC. Our 500 plus students come from varying socioeconomic backgrounds and from a variety of different countries. One of the ways we celebrate our diversity is through our theater program.
Our students and staff are so excited to enter our second year of the Disney Musicals in Schools Partnership with NJPAC in order to continue building our sustainable theater program.
They absolutely love active, and engaging projects that allow them to shine. They come to school each day looking for a way to channel their energy and to escape what they are dealing with outside the school environment. Our students are a group of very talented and hardworking children looking for an emotional outlet.
My Project
This project will help bring life to the characters of Hans Christian Anderson's, story, "The Snow Queen." This project will show students who don't like to read, the benefits of reading, by translating the pages to the stage by performing, in May of 2020 Frozen, Kids.
These needed props, set dressings, and costumes will visually show how to translate pages of a story to the stage.
The costume, set, and prop design will get other non-acting students engaged in our project as well. The student cast will use the blue and white fabric to create the wild snowstorm as they move about the stage.
Musical theater exposes students to a wide spectrum of skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, team-building and public speaking.
