Our school is now in its third year, and we are working on making our science lessons the best they can be. Our students come from distant areas of our district, attending many specialty classes. Since many students are new every year, we create a "family" every August through shared experiences in science.
Science lessons are the backbone of learning about the world around us as we use critical thinking to make meaning.
We have specialty classes including Transitional Kindergarten, Special Day, Resource, Gen Ed, and highly gifted classes, all on one campus. We all study science to become responsible members of Earth's community.
My Project
As we start this new year, my students look for reference material that is within their reach. Often, searches in the internet, reveal too many things that fourth graders just can't understand and work with effectively. By having books right at their level, the research is more focused and efficient.
Searching the internet is sometimes fruitless, since there are way too many options to look at.
By having books in the classroom, my students will find the information they need to investigate the structure and function of insects. The scale is for investigations and the clay is for creating an insect the student found on a website with micro-sculpture photos.
