I teach second grade at an inner city school. My school receives 100% free breakfast and lunch. My students are excited to come to school and learn every day. They thrive on the support and love they get at school and it really makes a difference in their lives.
Our students come to school at least one year below grade level.
We have to work really hard to get them caught up. It really takes a village to raise a child.
My Project
My second grade students are in need of quality nonfiction resources such as Scholastic News to enhance their learning and build upon their background knowledge.
It would be a wonderful tool to integrate with literacy, science, and social studies.
It would also be a valuable resource for the many writing tasks that the children complete throughout the year.
They are very motivated about reading and learning new facts about our world. Giving them access to this awesome periodical that is written for their grade level is the perfect way to support my students. It is also a resource that can be used for differentiation purposes during small group, as well as whole group instruction. Each year my students favorite editions are the Bugs! I can't wait to continue their love of learning, science and reading.
