Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 20 preschoolers living in a diverse neighborhood who attend a large public school receiving Title I funds, within an even larger school system. The majority of my students are English Language Learners, and a variety of beautiful languages are heard throughout the day in our class. At 3, 4, and 5 years of age, my preschool classroom is their first time being in an educational environment with other students.
It is a time of many proud "firsts" and remarkable moments of questioning, discovery, and exploration.
My students are very verbal, social, and have an unbridled passion for trying new things and solving problems. Preschool is a time to nurture natural wonder and curiosity and to set the foundations for skills and habits that will follow my students as they continue with their educational experiences.
I am always looking for new ways to feed my students' interests. I change the materials and layout of my classroom throughout the year to provide them with the best learning environment that caters to their interests. I cherish my role as an educator in supporting my students on all of their learning paths!
My Project
My students are so curious! With a few weeks of school under way, they have been enjoying their new classroom, exploring new materials, and playing with new friends along the way. We have been practicing problem-solving throughout our day, sharing new materials, and exploring new centers in the classroom.
Help me give my students hands-on materials to bolster their interest in science, insects, and more!
Our current science center leaves much to be desired. I would love to be able to introduce my students to materials that will allow them to answer some of their own questions. For example, when we see insects at our playground, it would be incredible for my students to be able to examine some of the real insects through glass. In being able to share new open-ended science materials and toys with my students, we could hear them working through their own inquiry, exploring how magnets work, exploring animal and insect habitats, and so much more.
Thank you for considering my students and supporting their growing minds and natural curiousity!
