Budgeting Virtual Field Trips- Window to the World!
Help me give my students a virtual field trip in which they experience financial literacy by budgeting money for a trip around the world and then taking the trip virtually with the oculus go set.
I teach middle school and high school social studies at a rural school in Northwest Missouri. My students are a diverse group with various learning needs and challenges. They have very little background in economics and financial literacy and would benefit greatly from training in this area.
My students are eager to learn about financial literacy with technology; this opportunity will increase their engagement and achievement as they experience world virtual field trips and budgeting as they learn about economics and geography.
Despite the hardships and challenges many of my students face, they walk into school every day full of life and eager to learn. They are excited to learn new things with technology in my classroom. They currently have limited exposure to financial literacy and careers in economics. They also would benefit from training in economics, geography, and business simulations like budgeting for a trip to another country. This project will help introduce them to these concepts and provide them with a better understanding of financial literacy and economics in general.
My Project
This project would engage students in a virtual field trip to a landmark in the world. Students must prepare a budget for their trip, take the virtual trip, and using a green screen app complete a slide show of themselves on the trip at the various points of interest.
Students will experience financial literacy as they prepare the budget for their virtual field trip.
Virtual technology will help the students increase engagement and involvement as they “travel” around the world. Students will also be responsible for learning about foreign currency and conversion rates as they complete this activity.
The final product will include a budget proposal with currency considerations as well as a slide show of their “virtual trip.”
