Buddy Reading With Our Favorite Characters

My Students
This year I moved to first grade after teaching 20 years in kindergarten. I am so delighted to teach this group of bright and eager students.
We love to have new learning adventures every day. My first grade students are learning new, groundbreaking things in math and literacy. I am especially excited to watch their growth in phonics, writing and math.
My Project
My first graders love to read about their favorite characters. I have a few stuffed characters that they beg to read with.
When they hug a plushie that is in the book they are reading, they light up with confidence and joy.
I want every student to have a character they can read to during our Daily Five buddy reading. My students love to read aloud to a friend. But the noise level can get too high, especially when reading changes to visiting. When they read to a stuffed animal or toy, they are much calmer and more confident in their reading.
