Help me give my students printers and paper for writing and publishing stories! They also need laminating pouches, folders, sheet protectors, and other items.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low income school, my students are from various ethnic and racial backgrounds. Most of my students are lacking a stable home life and a majority receive free lunch. My students have many difficult challenges they face at home on a daily basis. School is an outlet for my students so I try to make their environment a safe and happy place to want to come and learn.
Through engagement in fun activities with games and technology, my students develop a love of learning.
For many in my class, school is their only exposure to technology. I try to foster a love of learning in my classroom so my students become lifelong learners.
My Project
My students are learning to write long stories this year and to get them motivated to write, I have them write and publish class "books". The students enjoy reading and writing stories that come from themselves and their classmates. In our class, we share our writings/stories and publish them where they are displayed in our class book area for everyone to enjoy. The students each use binders where they collect their information and store their draft writings.
My students get so excited to see their published work put in a book and shared with everyone in the class.
They are so proud to see another student pick up their book and read what they have written and enjoy it. It is a real motivating factor to get my students to write.
Since my students come from a reduced income families, many school supplies and materials are difficult for them to obtain. Also, working in a Title l school limits the amount of technology we have. Normally, we have to wait and go to the computer lab to type and print our stories where we sometimes run out of time and have to wait until our next session. Having the printers, paper, and supplies in the classroom for my students to type their stories and print them instantly, will really motivate my students and let everyone publish very quickly.
