This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a teacher of 7 high functioning Autistic Middle School students. We are working toward good behavior, raising hand before speaking, and other appropriate social skills which are sometimes a challenge for Autistic children. I am setting up a "Mini-Society" within my room where all students get a chance to "earn" "dollars" for good behavior. Of course, the better the behavior, the more dollars earned. If a student has great behavior, he remains on "green" and receives $2.00 a day. If he has some difficulties in his behavior, he will move to "yellow" and will receive $1.00. This way, all students will get the opportunity to earn bucks. I need to purchase small items to place in my classroom store for the students to "buy" weekly. This activity also strengthens basic math and money exchanging skills. I am a new teacher with prior teacher's asst. experience and know that this activity benefits the students and the classroom on many levels.
