This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are hardworking, kids who love to learn. Sure, we are a Title I school, but you wouldn't guess it if you walked into my room! You'd find diverse students composing, choreographing, writing, and growing.
The students inspire me to learn more because they are so inquisitive, and interested in digging a little deeper.
English may be a second language for many, but everyone is engaged in learning a third language-MUSIC! Our school is a small, tight-knit community of neighbors and learners.
My Project
My students are tired of sitting on the floor everyday! Elementary music classrooms need seating that serves a purpose, and chairs just don’t cut it for us. These buckets will turn into seats for my students and will provide storage for classroom supplies. I plan to cover the lids with padding and fun fabric to make them into comfy seats for daily use. Then, we’ll flip them over and grab some drumsticks to practice rhythms and playing in a music ensemble on bucket drums. Playing drums reduces stress and relieves frustration while improving students coordination, communication, and of course, it’s also fun!
